Nanoboard Case Study: The Can Naiades Project

The Can Naiades project stems from the ambitious idea of creating a newly built single-family residence capable of blending seamlessly with the surrounding landscape, combining technological innovation, energy efficiency, and sustainable design. Located in a warm climate zone just outside Barcelona, the home was designed to ensure maximum living comfort while minimizing energy consumption, but faced significant challenges from the earliest stages of design.

The need to eliminate thermal bridges and achieve a structure that met stringent thermal insulation and eco-sustainability standards prompted the designers to look for high-performance materials. With this in mind, collaboration with Pafile and the use of Nanoboard proved crucial to the success of the project.

Nanoboard: an innovative solution for thermal bridges

Thermal bridges are one of the main obstacles to the energy efficiency of a building. These are areas where heat manages to “escape” due to discontinuities in thermal insulation. This phenomenon frequently occurs at joints between different materials, edges, columns, or structural connections, causing not only heat loss but also problems such as condensation, mold, and a significant increase in energy consumption.

In the Can Naiades project, Nanoboard proved to be the ideal material to address and solve these critical issues. With its stated Thermal Conductivity λD ≤ 0.015 [W/mK], Nanoboard provides outstanding insulating capacity, eliminating thermal bridges and creating a continuous and homogeneous thermal barrier along the entire structure.

Nanoboard & Nanoboard Fabric

Nanoboard, or dust-free Aerogel, is not just a high-performance thermal insulation board-it is a complete solution for improving the living comfort and energy efficiency of buildings.

What is the difference between Nanoboard and Nanoboard Fabric?

  • Nanoboard is a semi-rigid heat-insulating board or roll, ideal for structural applications requiring high-performance insulation with a thermal conductivity λD ≤ 0.015 [W/mK].
  • Nanoboard Fabric is a more rigid version of the normal panel having a 200g sheet of fiberglass on either (or both) sides. This sheet makes the panel optimal for coat or(SATE) applications both internally and externally.

Nanoboard and Can Naiades: a perfect marriage

The main challenge for the construction of Can Naiades was to design a new building that met the highest standards in terms of energy efficiency and environmental sustainability.

With Nanoboard, Pafile has helped solve the problem of thermal bridging in a context where every detail of the design had to ensure living comfort and optimal thermal performance. Its exceptional thermal conductivity (λD ≤ 0.015 W/mK) and versatility of application make it the ideal product not only for buildings to be upgraded but also for new constructions that focus on innovation and environmental friendliness.

Can Naiades is a concrete example of how, through close collaboration between designers and material suppliers, complex technical challenges can be overcome and efficient, comfortable and sustainable buildings can be realized. Pafile, with its Nanoboard, confirms its commitment to supporting next-generation projects, offering cutting-edge solutions for modern architecture.
